GUWAHATI: Gauhati University Campus NSS (National Service Scheme) Unit conducted a seven-day special camp at Dharapur Village, Kamrup (M) from May 20 to 26, 2023, in accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, government of India. The camp was started with the theme “protect the environment” and inaugurated by Dr. Ranjan Kr Kakati, Director, Students’ Welfare and Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell, Gauhati University, who urged NSS volunteers to focus more on social and community service. Dr. Rituparna Borah, Programme Officer, GU Campus NSS Unit, coordinated the camp.

The event featured the presence of esteemed resource persons, Prof. M.C. Kalita, former-dean, Faculty of Technology, Gauhati University; Prof. Jagadish Sarma, secretary, University Classes, GU; and Dr. Jyoti Prasad Medhi, assistant professor, GU,who imparted their knowledge and expertise to the volunteers. The camp concluded with a “TB screening and health awareness camp” at Dharapur. Biplab Deka, PMDT Coordinator, Kamrup (M), Madhumita Sangmai, ICTC Counsellor, Kamrup (M), Safique Ali Mirza, Secretary, Dharapurgaon Panchayat, and Dr. Sangita Pathak, Community Health Officer, Dharpur, and Dr. Arup Jyoti Kalita, Social Worker, graced the occasion and urged everyone to work together for the complete eradication of TB in India. During the camp, free medical checkups and screenings for HIV and TB were done, stated a press release.
