Sharjeel Imam row: Assam Police visits Tihar Jail

GUWAHATI: A team of Assam Police visited the national capital on Friday, seeking custody of Sharjeel Imam, who was arrested for making inflammatory remarks against Assam. Imam is currently lodged in Tihar Jail and a case has been lodged against him in Assam by the case number (01/2020 under section 121A. 124A, 153A, 153B IPC RW 13 (I)/ 15(a) (iii)/18 UA (P) Act). As per sources, Assam Police has submitted the necessary documents to the Tihar authorities and the court to take over the custody. “However, it has not yet been clear that Assam Police will get Imam’s custody as several cases are already registered against him in Delhi”, said the source. Several states including Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh have filed FIRs against him for making the ‘offensive’ remarks.
