Shweta Agarwal Murder Case Lover Govind Singhal, 2 Others Convicted

GUWAHATI: The fast-track court bench of Justice A Chakraborty on Tuesday convicted Govind Singhal, his mother Kamala Devi Singhal and sister Bhavani Singhal in the sensational murder case of meritorious student Shweta Agarwal at Bharalumukh in Guwahati.

Shweta Agarwal, a TDC fifth semester student of KC Das Commerce College in Guwahati, was murdered on December 4, 2017 by her lover Govind Singhal in his rented house at Bharalumukh here. Shweta Agarwal was in the merit list in HS Commerce examination in 2015. On the fateful day, Govind had taken Shweta to his rented residence on his bike. They had a quarrel in the house. When Govind pushed Shweta hard, she got struck hard against the wall and died. Govind took the body of Shweta to dispose of on a bike, but had to take it back home. He then torched the body inside the bathroom.

The police submitted the charge sheet against Govind Singhal, his mother Kamala Devi Singhal and sister Bhavani Singhal under Section 302/120(B)/ 201 for murder, conspiracy and destroying evidence. The bench is likely to pronounce the quantum of punishment to the trio on August 1, 2019.

Meanwhile, the family members of Shweta Agarwal want capital punishment for the trio.
