Singer Receives Amulya Kakati Award At Vivekananda Kendra

GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) conferred the Amulya Kakati Memorial Award on noted singer Pankaj Bordoloi at a function at Vivekananda Kendra at Uzan Bazar in Guwahati on Sunday. Born at Rupajuli Tea Estate near Tezpur on December 24, 1960, Bordoloi was adjudged the best singer of Darrang College for three consecutive years by singing Jayanta Hazarika’s ‘Borsha hritu bhal pao moi’. He also received gold medals in Jyoti Sangeet and Rabha Sangeet from Gauhati University in 1983. The award caries a Seleng chador, an eri jacket, a memento and Rs 25,000 in cash. Present at the function were AASU adviser Samujjal Bhattacharjya, president Dipanko Kumar Nath and who’s who of the music world. The award was given away by noted actress Mridula Baruah. Singer Bordoloi sang a few numbers at the function.
