Sirish Festival Recognizes And Awards Icons of Tea Community

GUWAHATI: APPL Foundation, which is the primary promoter of Sirish, endeavours to encourage the intangible culture and heritage of tea tribes via the Sirish festival.

Four editions of Sirish have already been held: the first one at Hatikhuli (Kaziranga, 2015), followed by Powai (Margherita, 2016), Naharkatiya (2017) and Misa (2018). The fifth edition will be held at Nahorani Tea Estate on March 16 and 17, 2019.

Sirish has given to the community a platform to showcase their distributed fragments of performing arts, literature as well as sports. It is worth mentioning that Sirish is the largest independent platform that seeks to promote, preserve and protect the tea tribe art forms.

The 5th Edition of Sirish- A festival of Tea 2019 was kicked off at Damdim Tea Estate in North Bengal in January 2019. As a tribute to the Tea Tribe Community, two icons from the field of culture and literature with a citation and cash award of Rs 1 lakh. Shiv Charan Das was announced the Cultural Icon and Bipin Chandra Matharu, the Literature Icon.
