Six arrested for 'assaulting' traffic police constables in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Traffic police constable Utpal Gohain lodged an FIR in Panbazar PS on Saturday. Based on the FIR, the police registered a case (599/21 u/s 279/143/325/307/506).

In the FIR, Utpal Gohain alleged that he and two other traffic police constables were beaten by some youths on Saturday morning at around 1.30 am.

Utpal Gohain and the two other traffic police constables – Ritupan Saikia and Amit Das– live in a rented house at Nabagiri Path under Panbazar PS.

The three of them had gone to throw garbage on the roadside dustbin when a car (AS 01 BY0010) allegedly tried to run them over.

They asked the driver of the car to drive carefully. The driver allegedly threatened them and after some time, 10-12 youths came in two cars and beat them with sticks.

Based on the FIR, Panbazar Police arrested six youths on Saturday. They have been identified as Anubhav Pandey (23) of Kharguli, Pramod Das (23) of Jyotinagar, Chandmari; Niraj Dutta (22) of Nabagiri, Chandmari; Himangshu Choudhury (23) of Rehabari; Ankur Jyoti Roy (23) of Panbazar and Geet Sankar Mazumdar (23) of Ranibari.

All six were produced before the CJM court on Sunday. Ankur Jyoti Roy and Geet Sankar Mazumdar were forwarded to one day police custody while the others were remanded to judicial custody.
