Six cell phone thieves, drug peddlers held

GUWAHATI: In a crackdown against criminals, the special operation group of the Central Guwahati Police District (CGPD) arrested six cell phone thieves and drug peddlers from various parts of the city on Friday. The series of operations was carried out by the special operation group with the assistance of a team from police from the Noonmati police station along with the personnel of the 152 Battalion, G Company of the Central Reserve Police Force. The joint team first arrested Birgu Singh Bordoloi of Housing Colony, Noonmati and Hirakjyoti Nath of Nandangiri Path. Based on their interrogation, another three persons from the Patharquarry area of Noonmati were arrested who were identified as Mohd Hanif Ali, Mohd Sirajul Islam and Mohd Suraj Jaman Sekh.

Further interrogation of the accused led to the arrest of one Alok Gogoi of Ghanashyam Basti. Their arrests led to the recovery of 15 stolen smartphones, 6.29 gms of heroin, Rs 38,020 in cash along with two soapboxes, 10 vials and 40 polythene bags. The accused have been booked under various sections of the IPC.
