Skill development programme held for ST women in Bahupara, Rani

The valedictory function of Skill Development Programme (SDP) on Alternative Livelihood Promotion for 25 scheduled tribes' women in the State of Assam was held at Bahupara, Rani on Monday.

GUWAHATI: The valedictory function of Skill Development Programme (SDP) on Alternative Livelihood Promotion for 25 scheduled tribes' women in the State of Assam was held at Bahupara, Rani on Monday. The main objective of the programme commencing from October 2 to December 31, 2020 was to boost entrepreneurship among tribal women in the State and make them economically self reliant by setting up handloom enterprise.

The programme sponsored by National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC), Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India was implemented by Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE). The function was attended by the chief guests Asit Gopal, CMD of NSTFDC, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, and Ramendra Narayan Kalita, West Guwahati MLA, Dr. Abhijit Sharma, Director IIE, officials from IIE, NSTFDC, among others.

While speaking on the occasion Dr. Abhijit Sharma, Director, IIE said, "More focus has to be made through Skill Development Programme (SDP) on Alternative Livelihood Promotion for Scheduled Tribes Women in the State of Assam with an aim for boosting entrepreneurship among tribal women in the State and make them economically self-reliant by collaborative efforts of NSTFDC, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India".

Asit Gopal, CMD of NSTFDC, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India and chief guest of the function said, "The craft traditions of Northeastern India are not practiced as hobby, nor are they a commercial venture, they are very much an integral part of the life and customs of the people. This programme will definitely help to create tribal women to develop as entrepreneurs".

Another chief guest of the progamme MLA RN Kalita thanked the IIE and NSTFDC for bringing the opportunity to the villagers of Rani.

Hemanta Rabha, Project Consultant, IIE informed that the training was designed to teach the beneficiaries to weave both in Eri and cotton and lifestyle products would be created out of the fabric to meet the market demand. The programme ended with vote of thanks, stated a release.
