Skill development programme opened

GUWAHATI, May 19: The Executive Director (HR & Admin) of the OIL India Ltd. Pranjit Deka has inaugurated a skill development programme sponsored by the oil giant under their CSR initiative at Pragati School of Management, Guwahati on Saturday. The programme is being implemented by Pragati Edutech and is carried out under the banner of “Swabalamban”, a CSR initiative of OIL.

Launching the programme for the current financial year with as many as 100 students of its first batch, Deka spoke about the CSR activities of OIL and how they are benefiting the society at large. He also welcomed the candidates and motivated them to work hard and make good use of this opportunity to have a successful career in the hospitality industry.

Industry representatives from Radisson, Taj, Novotel, Brahmaputra Jungle Resort etc were also present to motivate the candidates and give them the industry perspective.

Pragati had signed an MOU with OIL in 2016 to implement skill development programmes which lead to sustainable employment for the educated unemployed youths of NE region. A total of 500 students in the year 2016-17 and 800 students in the year 2017-18, with minimum HSLC qualification, were selected, and all the students came from socio-economically disadvantaged background, including MOBC, SC, ST and tea tribes and from the inspirational districts of the Northeast as announced by the Government Of India recently.

The programmes were a resounding success, with 93% placement and most of the students getting placed in many MNC hospitality brands all over India such as, Marriott, Taj, Oberoi, Crown Plaza, Ramada, ITC etc. Many of the beneficiaries of Project “Swabalamban” are currently working abroad too, in countries like USA, UK, Singapore, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia etc.

Sanjit Raaj Choudhry & Sujoy Baruah, Founders & Directors of Pragati Edutech, along with all faculty members also welcomed the candidates and thanked OIL for coming forward with a project like ‘Swabalamban’ under their CSR, which is benefitting so many unemployed youths of the region.

Meanwhile, looking at the success of this programme, OIL has decided to sponsor 800 other students during the financial year, 2018-19 in the hospitality domain under the same project.
