GUWAHATI: The State BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) has alleged that the social life of the people of the State was at stake during the Congress regime. The party underlined that the Congress didn't pay heed to the burning issues of the State due to which development was at a standstill over the years.

In a statement, BJP spokesperson Pabitra Margherita said, "The Congress government didn't only fail to solve the fundamental problems, but also it didn't discuss the long-pending issues of the State like the construction of bridge between Majuli and Jorhat."

Margherita asserted that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has addressed these long-pending issues of the State and has offered solution to many such problems.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari will lay the foundation stone of the bridge to connect Majuli and Jorhat. The bridge will be built at an estimated amount of Rs 925 crore and will be 8-km long. It is shameful that such a bridge has to be constructed after so many decades of independence. Hadn't the BJP government been in power at the Centre and in the State and CM Sonowal represented Majuli as an MLA, it would have taken another 100 years to construct the bridge," said Margherita.

Further, taking a jibe at the Congress, the leader highlighted some issues which the former 'failed' to solve during its successive tenures.

The issues that Margherita highlighted are – all-round development of Tea Tribes, electrification of railway lines, making Kaziranga National Park and xatra lands encroachment free, curbing poaching of rhinos, sealing the India-Bangladesh border by using modern technology, and setting up of AIIMS in Sansari.
