Social media under surveillance: ADGP (law and order) GP Singh

GUWAHATI: The State government has moved the Gauhati High Court with a review petition seeking ban Internet ban in the State from 5 pm to 6 am till normalcy returns. The government made the plea to the court on Friday citing intelligence inputs.

Following an order from the Gauhati High Court, the ban on Internet in the Brahmaputra Valley was lifted officially from 5 pm on Thursday. However, on the ground Internet services were made available from 9 am on Friday. Guwahati city was seen teeming with life and cabbies with the restoration of the Internet services. The cabbies were off the roads in the city for nine days. Hospitals facilities that need internet transactions and other services resumed their normal functioning.

State ADGP (law and order) GP Singh tweeted, “Friends, the mobile internet services are being restored to enable people to go about life in a normal manner. Please be wise in writing, forwarding posts on social media platforms. Let’s build a stronger Assam together. Looking forward to continue support.”

Singh said, “I urge the netizens to be wise while posting or forwarding any posts or videos clips in social media platforms on the CAA. The social media is under surveillance. I appeal to all to maintain peace in the State.”
