GUWAHATI: A social worker and former engineer of the Town and Country Planning Organization, Siddique Rahman (82), passed away on Tuesday in a nursing home. He hailed from Hatigaon.

He was born in Salamari Bhoira village in Belsor, Nalbari district, to Sameer Ali and Kuhi Bibi. He is survived by his wife, Noor Nehar Begum; two sons, Noorul Haque and Nazrul Haque; and a daughter, Sajida Rahman.

He was a lifetime member of the Axam Xahitya Xabha. He retired from the Town and Country Planning organization in 2000. He was associated with various local associations in Hatigaon.

His janazah (final rites) were performed in Sijubari, Hatigaon, on Wednesday, where hundreds of people were present. AASU chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya, vice president Bipul Rabha, the All Guwahati Students’ Union, Sadou Asom Goria Moria Jatiya Parishad, and leaders of various other organizations expressed sympathy to the bereaved family members of Rahman.
