GUWAHATI: Circles concerned in the State 'reeked off' political intension in Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal's legal adviser Santanu Bharali's bike rally for awareness against drugs and litter in West Guwahati on Sunday. The controversy over the intention of the rally has thickened further with Minister and Eest Guwahati MLA Siddhartha Bhattacharya also taking out a bicycle rally in the same LAC (Legislative Assembly Constituency). The controversy has stemmed from the fact that Bharali is seeking BJP ticket from West Guwahati LAC where Bhattacharya is a contender for party ticket.
After the bike rally, Bharali said, "My rally is against the increased use of drugs and littering in the city. These are unhygienic developments."
When asked on his involvement in the BJP, he said, "I've a party office in my residence. Since my colleagues are mostly BJP leaders and workers, most of them took part in today's rally." When on his intention to contest the forthcoming assembly election with BJP ticket from East Guwahati, Bharali replied in the positive. "It depends on the party high command. I'm hopeful of BJP ticket. The party high command will consider my case," he said.
Meanwhile, Minister Bhattacharya said, "It's a good sign that someone from the BJP is campaigning for the party. It's not possible for one person to cover the entire constituency during campaign."
