Speculations rife on next president of State Bharatiya Janata Party

GUWAHATI: Speculations are rife as to who will be the next president of State BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) with reports doing the rounds that the present president, Ranjeet Kumar Dass is likely to be inducted in the Cabinet of the next government in the State.

When asked, a highly placed source in the State BJP said, "Things will take shape in due course of time and according to party rules. The party high command will take the final decision on both the cases."

Meanwhile, party members often refer to two leaders during discussions on the topic. They are Dilip Saikia — Member of Parliament from Mangaldai and also one of the national general secretaries of the saffron party; and Bhabesh Kalita — Irrigation Minister and MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) from Rangia.

In the 2021 Assembly polls, Ranjeet Kumar Dass was elected from Patacharkuchi Constituency in the newly constituted Bajali district. In the earlier polls in 2016, Dass was elected from Sorbhog in Barpeta district.
