Spell Out Steps For Detection & Deportation of Bangladeshis: Tarun Gogoi To PM Modi

GUWAHATI: Senior Assam Congress leaders Tarun Gogoi and Ripun Bora on Sunday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to spell out the steps taken by the BJP-led government at the Centre to detect and deport illegal Bangladeshis in the last five years.

Talking to media persons here on Sunday the APCC president Ripun Bora said Narendra Modi in one of his rallies in Assam during the 2014 Lok Sabha election announced to drive away all illegal Bangladeshis with bag and baggage from Assam after May 16 in the same year.

“Can Modi tell us now as how many Bangladeshis have been sent back to the neighbouring country in the last five years? During the recent election rally in Assam Modi did not even mention the issue of illegal Bangladeshis. Instead the BJP had brought the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill during their last five years regime to bring more Bangladeshis to Assam,” Bora said, adding that the previous Congress regime in Assam started the NRC update exercise.

Bora accused the BJP-led government of trying to derail the NRC exercise by bringing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

According to Bora the ruling BJP both at the Centre and State has failed to fulfill its commitment and promises to the people of Assam. He alleged that the BJP has done nothing concrete to solve the burning flood and erosion problem.

Bora questioned Modi as how could he call himself as chaiwala when his government has nothing much for the welfare of the tea community. He alleged that the ruling BJP government in Assam has not implemented the previous Tarun Gogoi government’s decision to hike the daily wage of tea workers upto Rs 351. “In the recent Modi’s speech in election rallies in Assam there was no vision for futuristic development of the State. But the Congress president Rahul Gandhi did highlight his vision for Assam in his last month’s rally in Guwahati,” Bora said.

Former chief minister Tarun Gogoi told reporters that instead of industrialization two vital paper mills were closed during the BJP government. He alleged that the BJP has made a u-turn on all its promises made to the people of Assam as well the rest of the country. “Instead of creating 2 crore jobs annually (as promised by the BJP) 4 crore people lost their jobs in the last five years,” Tarun Gogoi said.
