Spy Camera Found in SBI ATM in the City!

GUWAHATI: Is your hard-earned money safe in banks? Such a question arises after the detection of a first of its kind in the Northeast high-tech device used by ATM hackers at an SBI ATM at Dispur Last Gate on Friday. The device – comprising a spy camera, a memory card and a small data device – can record ATM details of bank customers.

The small device called as ATM hacker was kept fitted at the passage of the ATM through which cards are swiped. The device was detected by a customer while withdrawing cash at the SBI ATM at Dispur Last Gate here on Friday evening. The customer noticed the device that came out while he pulled it. He soon informed Dispur and Hatigaon police stations of the incident. Hatigaon police came to the spot and observed the device.

Talking to The Sentinel, Guwahati East DCP Ranjan Bhuyan said: “SBI experts are to let us know everything of the device installed purportedly by hackers in the ATM. We’ll investigate the matter in accordance with the briefing by SBI experts. We appeal to all ATM agents and banks to keep checking their ATMs from time to time. We also appeal to the public to be watchful while withdrawing cash with ATM cards.” A case has been registered to this effect at Hatigaon police station.
