State Bank of India Officers Association’s Annual General Meeting held in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The 30th Annual General Meeting of SBIOA, North Eastern Circle was organised in a grand manner on 9th March, 2019 at Gauhati Medical College Auditorium, Bhangagarh, Guwahati. The programme kick started with an unprecedented solidarity march that started from the SBIOA Office Premises at Bhangagarh and ended at the venue of the meeting.

Around 500 members participated in the march which was given wide publicity by the media as well. Before commencement of the meeting, the flag of the Association was hoisted by our circle President Com. Dilip Kumar Roychoudhury, in presence of Com. Soumya Datta, General Secretary of All India Bank Officer’s Confederation cum President of All India State Bank Officers’ Federation amidst chanting of slogans. The opening song was performed by our members of the Circle Association.

The General Secretary, SBIOA (NE Circle) in his welcome address extended a warm welcome to all the dignitaries and members. He thereafter gave a brief account of the present stage of the trade union movement in the country which is passing through a very critical phase withstanding one after another attack as an outcome of apathy towards Public Sector Organizations in general and the Banking Sector in particular. He stated that RBI and the Govt. feel it a pleasure to see Public Sector Banks suffer.

He also threw light on the poverty, hunger, inequality and the unfortunate suicide of farmers in India. He went on to say that the future of the PSBs is full of challenges and hence we all need to be alert, active and united to deal with this emergency like situation and overcome the challenges to ensure our survival.

Com. Soumya Datta, General Secretary of All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC) and President of AISBOF raised the issue of rising NPAs in Public Sector Banks in general and State Bank of India in particular. He attributed the menace to the wilful default by the corporate.

Digmanu Gupta, General Manager Network -II SBI N.E. Circle, and Ajay Kumar Singh, General Manager Network -I SBI N.E. Circle, in their deliberation, congratulated the Circle Association for being so active in their organizational activities. They appreciated the Association for embracing technology in their day to day activities.

The other leaders and dignitaries also deliberated on various significant issues which were highly appreciated by the gathering. The open session was followed by the business session in which the General Secretary submitted the secretarial report along with the statement of accounts of the Association. The meeting was a huge success with the whole-hearted participation of more than 1200 members.
