GUWAHATI: The State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while exuding confidence regarding comprehensive victories in both the ensuing bye-election to the Majuli Assembly constituency as well as municipal board elections in the State, has requested people to come out in large numbers and cast their votes to make democracy more vibrant, transparent and powerful.

Addressing the media at the party headquarter at Hengrabari here on Saturday, spokesperson Pabitra Margherita said that the people of Majuli and 80 municipal boards have already made up their minds to vote for development and progressive work.

Refuting the allegations levelled against the BJP and the State Government on the issue of regionalism, Margherita said that Bhuyan had become an MP with the help of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), the party which owes its birth to of scrapping of the IMDT Act. He said that Bhuyan does not have any right to speak about the language, culture, history and regionalism of Assam.

Margherita further remarked that due to his lust to gain power and position, Bhuyan has cheated the regional sentiments of the Assamese people. Margherita compared Bhuyan to Mir Jafar, who helped Robert Clive to defeat Siraj ud-Daulah in the battle of Plassey and made India the colony of the East India Company.

Margherita also said that the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) and Raijor Dal has surrendered before the Congress and accepted its supremacy. He said that by forming an alliance with the Congress, which murdered 855 martyrs during the Assam Agitation and is the supporter of illegal Bangladeshis, the leaders of AJP and Raijor Dal, Lurin Jyoti Gogoi and Akhil Gogoi, have proved to be the "Jaichands" of Assam.

He said that the massive crowds at BJP rallies and the crowds of 300 or less people at a grand rally at Majuli which was attended by the presidents of the Congress, AJP and Raijor Dal, indicate the acceptability of the BJP among the voters of Assam.

Rejecting the allegation made by Akhil Gogoi that Rupam Goswami, in-charge of BJP Sivasagar district and BJP District Committee, threatened the Raijor Dal, Margherita said that such allegations of "baseless, hilarious and portrays the escapist attitude of Akhil Gogoi, which he adopts when defeat is very clear and near."
