State BJP executive meeting from today

GUWAHATI, May 17: Around the time state-wide vehement opposition to the Citizenship (Amendment ) Bill, 2016 is rocking Assam, coupled with the NRC updating process, which is keeping the people glued to it, the BJP is organizing a 2-day executive meeting of the state unit of the party at Nalbari from Friday.

The 2-day meeting will discuss the issue of the Citizen (Amendment ) Bill, 2016 in the light of the old decision of the party to grant citizenship to Hindu Bangladesh nationals and the assurance given by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to a group of leading Editors that the interests of the people of the State will not be hurt while taking the final decision on the Bill.

State BJP general secretary Dilip Saikia said that the meeting will discuss issues like the present political scenario of the State and organizational matters keeping in view the 2019 Lok Sabha election. The meeting will also focus on the celebration of completion of two years by the Sonowal Government in the state and four years by the Modi-led government at the Centre, he added.

The 2-day executive meeting will be chaired by state BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass and will be attended by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and a host of state BJP leaders. Among the national leaders, national organizational general secretary Ram Lal, North-east organizational secretary of the party Ajay Jamuwal, Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain among others as well as the BJP MPs and MLAs from Assam will attend the meet.
