State BJP takes a dig at Congress over developmental issues in Assam

"Despite long-time betrayal of the Congress government, the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party)-led government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has achieved new heights of development in Assam. Thus, the Congress leaders have no right to criticize the government," said State BJP senior spokesperson Rupam Goswami while addressing a press meet here on Wednesday.

GUWAHATI: "Despite long-time betrayal of the Congress government, the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party)-led government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has achieved new heights of development in Assam. Thus, the Congress leaders have no right to criticize the government," said State BJP senior spokesperson Rupam Goswami while addressing a press meet here on Wednesday.

"The Congress leaders, who exploited and betrayed the State, are not being able to accept the developmental works executed by the BJP during its tenure. Now, the Congress party has laid at the feet of AIUDF supremo Badruddin Ajmal and has started 'Assam Bachao' campaign to misguide the public against the developmental works of the government," Goswami stressed.

State BJP spokesperson Subhash Dutta added, "When Manmohan Singh was in power he turned a blind eye to the burning issues of the North East. Despite being an MP from Assam, he betrayed the State when he was the Prime Minister. He didn't release crude oil royalty of Rs 7,770 crore for the State. The amount was released by PM Modi when the BJP came to power. Now, the Congress is alleging that PM Modi has betrayed people of Assam. While the 13th Finance Commission allocated Rs 79,000 crore to the State during the Congress regime, Rs 1,55,000 crore was allocated to the State during the BJP regime. The people will decide which party has betrayed them."

Further, he highlighted the following funds that have been allocated to the State during the BJP regime — Rs 2,800 crore for urban development, Rs 99 crore for urban transportation, Rs 162 crore for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Rs 730 crore for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Rs 228 crore for the Smart City Project, Rs 26,000 crore for MUDRA loan, Rs 1,100 crore for setting up of AIIMS, Rs 47,000 crore for Oil and Natural Gas sector, and Rs 950 crore for Majuli bridge.
