State Election Commission (SEC) Seeks 3 Month time from High Court

Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 27: The State Election Commission (SEC) has sought three months more from the Gauhati High Court for holding Panchayat poll in the State. Earlier, the High Court asked the SEC to complete the holding of panchayat poll in the State by September 15 this year.

The SEC filed a petition before the high court seeking three months more for holding the panchayat poll. In its petition, the SEC said that it needs more time for holding the rural poll in the State due to the deferment of the date of publication of the complete draft NRC by a month from June 30 to July 30 due to floods. Talking to The Sentinel, State Election Commissioner HN Bora said: “We’ve prayed before the high court seeking more time for holding the panchayat poll due to various reasons. We’ll go ahead as per the directive of the high court while holding the panchayat poll.”
