GUWAHATI: Rima Das' Bulbul Can Sing bagged the best film award for 2018, and Jonaki Poruwa- Fireflies of Milan Dutta bagged the award for 2019. The Department of Cultural Affairs, Assam gives away the films awards. The best film award was instituted after Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala.

State Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Borah announced the eighth State Film Awards for 2018 and 2019 today. Artistes will receive the awards at a function in Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra on March 13, 2023.

For 2018, Rima Das bagged the Brojen Baruah Award for best direction (Bulbul Can Sing), Khanjan Kishore Nath got the Abdul Majid Award for best debut direction (Chor), Monjul Baruah got the Bhanbendra Nath Saikia Award for best screenplay (Kaneen), Arup Manna got the Nalini Dowerah Award for best cinemaphotography (Aamrityu), Hueen Barua bagged the Bhaben Das award for best editing (Bhoga Khirkee), Anurag Saikia got the Parbati Prasad Baruah Award for best music direction (Chor and Xoixobote Dhemalite), Utkal Hazowari bagged the Natasurjya Phani Sarma Award for best actor (Suspended Inspector Bodo), Amrita Gogoi (Nijanor Gaan) and Dr Jahnara Begum (Kaneeri) bagged the Aideo Handique Award for Best Actress, Manoranjan Das bagged the Biju Phukan Award for best male debut actor (Bulbul Can Singh), Arnali Das bagged the Bidyut Chakrabarty Award for best female actor (Bulbul Can Sing), film Raktabeez bagged the Bijoy Sankar Award for the best popular film, Baharul Islam bagged the Tassuduk Yusuf Award for the best performance in negative role (Raktabeez), Fwila Bargoyary got the Moazin Ali Award for the best performance on comic role (Onnai), Ibson Lal Baruah bagged the Rudra Baruah Award for best playback singer (Bhoga Khirkee), Nahid Afreen bagged the Pratima Pandey Baruah Award for best female playback singer (Nijaanor Gaan), Bitupan Neog got the Dr Nirmalprabha Bordoloi Award for best lyrics (Kor Pora Koloi), the film Aamrityu got the Kalaguru Bishnu Rabha Award for Special Jury, Deepak Dey got the Gajen Baruah Award for the best choreography (Onnai), Amrit Pritam (sound design) and Debajit Changmai (recording mix) bagged the Pijush Kanti Award for best audiography (Bhoga Khirkee), Bikul Bodo got the Jugal Das Award for best art direction (Kor Pora Koloi), Ashitav Baruah bagged the Banshi Das Award for best make-up (Kaneen), Sanjay Kharguria got the Girish Choudhury Award for best supporting actor (Bhoga Khirkee), Poonam Gurung got the Iva Achao Award for best supporting actress (Suspended Inspector Bodo), Om Kashyap (Aamrityu) and Gunjan Saikia (Chor) got the Master Siddhartha Award for best child artiste, Daai of Producer Subanti Borkotoki got the Nip Baruah Award for best short film, Utpal Dutta got the best Kamal Narayan Choudhury Award for best direction of short film (Bahubritta), Lina Sarmah got the Sher Choudhury Award for best music director in short film (Get up Joyee), producers Gopal Zalan and Moonjyoti Saikia got the Naren Baruah Award for best documentary film (Alone the Combat Zone), Arup Borthakur got the Prabin Phukan Award for best direction in documentary film (Shadow of Marvel) and Aparajit Pujari got the Pabitra Kumar Deka Award for best writing on cinema articles.
