Stir Against Bill Orchestrated to Enroll Bangladeshis in NRC: BJP

GUWAHATI: The ruling BJP on Wednesday alleged that the movement against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 being orchestrated by vested interest groups to divert the people’s attention from the ongoing crucial NRC claims and objections exercise so that illegal Bangladeshis could enrol their names in the NRC.

A strongly worded official communiqué issued by the Assam BJP stated that at a time when the people of Assam and various other ethnic and indigenous organizations should have engaged themselves in strictly monitoring and involving themselves in the claims and objections exercise to prevent illegal Bangladeshis to include their names in the final NRC, their attention has been diverted towards launching agitation against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill by a vested interest groups. The party said illegal Bangladeshis Muslims are taking full advantage and exploiting the present situation in the State to enrol their names in the updated NRC.

Asserting that the ruling party is fully committed to ensuring publication of an illegal Bangladeshis free updated NRC, the BJP said the indigenous people of Assam should be cautious against the forces trying to oppose an error-free NRC on the pretext of the movement against the Citizenship Bill.
