Sudden shower brings city life to halt

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Sept 20: An hour-long shower on Thursday once again reminded the city residents of the fact that flood-free Guwahati is still a distant dream. The severity of artificial flood that appears right after the shower further prompts us to believe that flood-free Guwahati is not only a tough task, rather it is also becoming an impossible job.

As such, like the aftermath of any other raining day, the city almost came to a halt on Thursday following a short but strong shower.

Most of the busy corners of the city like Maligaon, Ambari, Ganeshguri, Jatiya, Panjabari, Chandmari, Jalukbari, Beltola, Uzanbazar, Hatigaon and RG Barua Roads were logged with artificial floods. As such, school children, usual commuters, traders and office goers were stuck on either side of the roads. Hundreds of city buses, school buses and other commercial and domestic vehicles were stranded by the sudden wave of flood in different points of the city.

Ironically, apart from other places around the city, the MLA’s hostel located in Dispur was also flooded on Thursday. Moreover, in many places of the city, electric poles were broken or uprooted the accompanying storm. Eventually, electricity were disrupted for hours.
