GUWAHATI: The GRP (Government Railway Police) detained as many as three compartments of a New Delhi-bound goods train at Guwahati Railway Station on Sunday, on suspicion of the compartments having loaded with Burmese supari (betel nut). The consignment bound for New Delhi was loaded at Dimapur. The numbers of the three compartments are ER 12845, CR 08831 and CR10826.

The three compartments have not been opened as yet. Investigation of documents regarding the consignment is going on. Supari being smuggled to elsewhere in the country from the Northeast is not new and the issue hits headlines from time to time. Burmese supari is also transported to Indian cities through the Northeast.
