Syndicates active in Dima Hasao, Karbi Anglong, alleges APCC

GUWAHATI: APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) on Monday alleged that various syndicates are operating in Dima Hasao autonomous council and Karbi Anglong autonomous council. The party stated that these syndicates are engaged in transportation of trees, illegally extracted natural sand, gravel, boulder and coal. Slamming the government, APCC said that the government is not taking any initiative to curb the menace and in result are losing crores of rupees in revenue.

Addressing a press meet here on Monday in Rajiv Bhawan, APCC general secretary Apurba Kumar Bhattacharjee said that in Dima Hasao, pine trees which were planted in 1980s are being illegal mowed down and smuggled from Umrangsho and Garam Pani area. Similarly, gravels and boulders from Haranggaja hills are being smuggled to Tripura and Silchar through the Jatinga River. “The forest department is acting as a spectator as hundreds of trucks loaded with rocks are transported to Bangladesh from Dima Hasao”, alleged Bhattacharjee. “From the Hingakhon hills and Deithor area of Karbi Anglong, coal syndicates are being run and the government is not doing anything”, he asserted. Further, the party appealed to the BJP government to take action in the regard and act on their agenda of a corruption free state.
