Tanker driver sold oil at Rs 5 lakh: Guwahati Police

GUWAHATI: Gorchuk police of Guwahati claims to have unearthed the fact that an oil tanker (AS01FC8021) that went missing on way to Tripura from Guwahati on January 17 this year was actually let go down the hill in Meghalaya after selling the oil at Rs 5 lakh by its driver.

The driver of the tanker – Rohit Das alias Biplap Das – hails from West Tripura district. He left with the tanker loaded with 20,000 litres of oil for Tripura from Betkuchi in Guwahati on January 17 this year. According to the police, Das sold the oil at Rs 5 lakh somewhere in Meghalaya and let the tanker go down the steep hill. The owner of the tanker did register a case (30/18 u/s 381) at Gorchuk police station soon after. On the trail of the case, the police found the wreckage of the tanker in Meghalaya recently. The police also arrested the driver from West Tripura. The police arrested one Samim Ahmed from Abhoyapuri in Bongaigaon district on Sunday based on the confessional statement of the driver. The duo was produced before the CJM court in Guwahati on Monday. The court sent them to judicial remand.
