Guwahati: Even though former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is suffering from post-COVID sequelae, his oxygen stauration  level is being maintained at around 92%, and he is currently "stable", Abhijit Sarma, the Superintendent of the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), informed The Sentinel Digital today. The Congress veretan was moved into the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital on Thursday after a fall in oxygen levels.

"Even though Tarun Gogoi had tested COVID negative, he had a bit of generalized weakness. His oxygen saturation level was maintained around 93-94%. A very minimal amount of oxygen was given to him yesterday. Earlier today, there was a sudden drop in his oxygen saturation level, because of which, we thought it best to shift him to the ICU for his "proper monitoring."

Sarma further informed that Gogoi currently suffers from post-COVID sequelae,. "After COVID, some patients continue to have health issues, such as lungs fibrosis. Because of the post COVID sequelae, his oxygen level has drooped," Sarma said, adding, "As of now, he is stable and his oxygen level is being maintained at around 92%."

Sources informed The Sentinel Digital that the Gogoi was rushed to the ICU in the early morning hours of Thursday after his condition turned "critical." Earlier, the octogenarian was admitted to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after testing positive for the dreaded coronavirus on August 26.

"I have been tested Covid 19 positive yesterday. People who came in contact with me during the last few days they should go for Covid test immediately."

Gogoi had written on Twitter, informing about his condition. During his treatment, Tarun Gogoi's health deteriorated as his oxygen levels suddenly dipped, following which he was administered convalescent plasma.

Later in the day, Assam Congress leader Debabrata Saikia, who is the leader of the Opposition, visited his partymate Tarun Gogoi in the hospital to take stock of the ailing leader's health.
