Tarun Gogoi Denies Alliance With AIUDF; Claims 10 Seats in Lok Sabha Polls

GUWAHATI: Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has denied “any political alliance between the Congress and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF). We’re not so weak to go for any tie-up with any other political party.” Addressing media here on Monday, he further claimed that “the Congress will get 10 seats in the forthcoming general election”. Gogoi further said that “the Congress has gained in popularity, and this has made the BJP quite nervous. The very fact that the BJP has denied tickets to several of its sitting MPs adequate proves that the party has failed to perform on several fronts.”

Further criticising the BJP, the Congress leader said, “The persons who really worked for the BJP have been sidelined, and their places have been usurped by opportunistic people and these people are now ruling the roost in that party.” He mentioned the name of veteran BJP leader LK Advani who too has been sidelined recently by the party top brass. Referring to the denial of ticket to Himanta Biswa Sarma, Tarun Gogoi said, “President Amit Shah will not only look after the entire campaigning of the BJP but also contest. Against this backdrop, what is the ground for denying ticket to Himanta. There are, besides, many political heavyweights of the party who are contesting the polls in the Northeast.” On Conrad Sangma, Gogoi stated, “The leader of National People’s Party (NPP) gained political mileage by opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. Today, he has taken a U-turn.”
