GUWAHATI: The Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad, Assam (TAYPA) has said that if the government doesn't take a formal decision on according ST status to the Tai Ahom community before Independence Day it will start a democratic agitation against the government.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, TAYPA president Dilip Gogoi said, "On August 19 we'll stage sit-in demonstrations in all district and sub-divisional headquarters against the BJP."

They've submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister on various demands of the community. The Chief Minister assured them of meeting their demands.

Meanwhile, Parishad demanded at least 15 tickets for the community from each of the political parties of the State in the coming Assembly poll.
