Teacher in Lakhimpur arrested for posting communally offensive comments on social media 

GUWAHATI: A teacher in Lakhimpur has been arrested for posting communally offensive comments on social media.

A case has been registered against the teacher, Pranabjyoti Sarma of Jamunakhat in Narayanpur, at Narayanpur police station. Sarma was arrested from his residence.

Lakhimpur Police have so far registered 17 cases against those violating lockdown norms; arrested 28 people and seized 16 vehicles.

Since the lockdown from March 24, a total of 1,359 people have been arrested and 8,533 vehicles have been seized till Friday. While out of the total seized vehicles 7,816 are two-wheelers, 632 are two-wheelers. A total fine of Rs. 29,42,300 have been realized in the State so far. The Assam Police has been vigilant on the spread of Fake News on social and in this regard 60 cases have been registered with 36 arrests. A total of 14 containment orders have been released so far.
