GUWAHATI: Four teachers' organizations of the state called off their SSA Office gherao agitation on May 21 and Dispur Chalo programme on May 31 due to floods and Gunotsav.

The four teachers' bodies had a meeting with SSA Executive Director Dhrubajyoti Das and other SSA officials yesterday when they took this decision.

Earlier on May 12, the four organizations announced their agitational programmes after a joint meeting in Guwahati. After yesterday's meeting, the four organizations submitted a joint memorandum to the SSA Director.

The four organizations have been demanding the conduct of a special TET (Teachers Eligibility Test) for them. Responding to their appeal, the SSA conducted a special TET on October 3, 2021. However, 96 per cent of such candidates could not qualify for the TET. They say that they could not qualify for the TET as the question papers were tough and erroneous. They also say that the questions papers had out of syllabus questions. They requested a grace mark, but the authority did not pay heed to their demand.

The four organizations insist that since they had to work for years at meagre remunerations, the authorities should be gracious enough and hold another special TET for them. The four organizations are All Assam SSK Union; Education Volunteer Association, Assam; Siksha Sarathi Shiksha Karmi & Community Volunteers' Association of Assam and the Thikabhittik Sikshakarmi O Sevak-Savika Aikya Mancha, Sarba Siksha Asom.
