Third Edition of Sreehatta Utsav Celebrated Successfully

GUWAHATI: With a view to preserve and promote the cause of social, cultural, educational and spiritual upliftment of the people with particular emphasis on bringing about a cultural integration among different segments of the society in the Northeast Region, the Sylheti Sammelan organised the third edition of Sreehatta Utsav on Sunday.

The Sreehatta Utsav was held in the GMCH Auditorium in the city where the program was opened by a Sylheti theme song and lokogeet. The Governor of Meghalaya, Tathagata Roy, who was the chief guest, inaugurated the ceremony. Expressing his gratitude to be a part of the programme, he said, “This kind of step is good for the society and spreads positivity. I wish the organisation more successful in the future.”

Mridul Hazarika, Vice Chancellor of Guwahati University also graced the occasion. Somali Mukherjee from Kolkatta, Jamal Uddin Hassan Banna, Mithila Das and Hamsul Alam Salim from Bangladesh were some of the artists who performed in the function.

A calendar of activities to be undertaken by the Sylheti Sammelan during the rest of the year has already been chalked out. These includes collection of clothes and medicines for the needy, adoption of an Orphanage and an Old Age Home, and also aiding unemployed youths by providing skill development training.
