Three-Day Independence Day Celebrations Begin

DC Mittal stresses not to use national flags made of plastic

GUWAHATI, Aug 13: The three-day long 72nd Independence Day celebration has begun on Monday across the state. Briefing the minutes of the celebration, Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner, Virendra Mittal informed the reporters that on the first day of its celebration on Monday, an inter-high school solo and group singing competition on patriotic songs was conducted among the school students. The second day of the celebration will be marked by poster designing competition on the theme, ‘Swachh Bharat’ followed by a quiz competition on the theme, ‘Indian National Movement’ among the students from high school and above.

“This time, along with the State Boards, students from CBSE, private higher educational institutes have also been participating in various competitions. He also informed the reporters that arrangement is also made to screen patriotic cinemas on August 15 at various cinema halls in the city to motivate students from class VIII to post graduate level,” Mittal said.

DC Mittal also cautioned that anyone selling national flags made of plastic will be taken necessary action.

Guwahati Police Commissioner Hiren Chandra Nath informed the reporters that no untoward incidents are likely on the occasion. “However, keeping in mind the sensitivity, we have beefed up three-tier security measures,” he said. Nath also appealed the city residents to cooperate the administration to make the celebration a grand one. He also appealed to the visitors not to bring metal items like knife, hand bag and any sort of tobacco products.

On the occasion of the 72nd Independence Day, State’s chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal will ceremonially hoist the national flag at Khanapara Veterinary College Playground, Guwahati at 9 am.
