Guwahati: At least three persons have been killed after massive landslides struck Guwahati's Boragaon following the heavy showers on Monday.

Reportedly, a house at Boragaon has been completely devastated due to mudslides from the hills.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES), and the police are conducting relentless rescue operations at the site of the incident since the morning of June 14.

Besides Boragaon, vicinities like Bamunimaidam, Basistha, and Nabagraha in Guwahati have experienced landslides. However, there are no reports of casualties or injuries from these areas so far.

Notably, heavy rainfall in Guwahati coupled with heavy thunderstorms since the evening of June 13 has caused landslides and has also triggered floods in many parts of the city.

Meanwhile, Dima Hasao has not only been affected by landslides but also by unprecedented floods in the Tahijuwari area, about 75 km from Haflong on the Haflong-Lanka road.

According to the residents of Thaijuwari, Thaijuwari market, Mojowari, Jonsorhadi, etc., they were informed that the River Diyung was swelling and there might be a heavy flood in Thaijuwari. Accordingly, they prepared themselves but they never dreamt that the flood would hit them in such a massive way.

The bridge over Lailengdisa was completely inundated and the flood water rose up to 30 feet and the river was forced to change its course.

The mighty River Diyung which flows near the Thaijuwari area took unprecedented shape and inundated a vast agricultural area, causing heavy loss to the people of the Thaijuwari area where at least 105 houses were affected due to flood.
