Time card system for Guwahati city buses soon

GUWAHATI: A time card system, which was supposed to be implemented at least two years ago to deal with the traffic congestion problem in the city, will be finally introduced within a month or so.

A senior officer of the Guwahati Traffic Police said on Sunday that a meeting has been already held between the district administration, police and Transport Department over the issue.

The officer said that a massive campaign will be launched in the coming days to ensure that this time the time card system is followed by the city buses running inside the city limits.

It is pertinent to mention that a time card is a system to monitor the movement of the city buses to ensure that they move in a regulated manner. The authorities schedule a particular time for each bus, which means that the buses have a scheduled start time, waiting time and an end-stop time. Violating the rule may lead to imposing of hefty fines on the bus owner concerned.
