GUWAHATI, July 17: Issuing a prohibitory order on July 17, the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati Hiren Chandra Nath imposed a prohibition on Aantarashtriya Hindu Parishad president Dr Pravinbhai Togadia from visiting Guwahati and delivering speech in any event organized by Aantarashtriya Hindu Parishad, Assam.

Pravinbhai Togadia was supposed to arrive in Guwahati today, and was expected to address a gathering at ITA, Machkhowa on July 18, besides addressing a press conference at the Guwahati Press Club on July 19.

The police believe that inflammatory speeches by Togadia will hurt the sentiments of the religious minority community and might create unnecessary tension. The order is also issued keeping in mind the publication date of complete draft National Register of Citizens (NRC). “Dr Pravinbhai Togadia is very likely to make inflammatory speeches if allowed to address the events to be held on July 17, 18 and 19 at ITA Machkhowa and at other places of Guwahati organized by AntaRashtriya Hindu Parishad, Assam Pradesh thereby disturbing public peace and order in Guwahati and other areas of the Commissionerate in a serious manner,” the order said.

The order will remain in force for two months.
