Guwahati: The top leaders of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) paid their tribute to the former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati on Wednesday.

The AASU Chief Advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya, president Dipankar Kumar Nath, General Secretary Sankar Jyoti Baruah, former General Secretary Lurin Jyoti Gogoi and senior leader Bipul Rabha visited Kalakshetra to pay homage to the three-time former CM of Assam, Tarun Gogoi.

Speaking to the media, the AASU leaders spoke about the contribution of the late leader towards the development of the state.

"Right after coming to power, he took strong measures to end secret killings in Assam. Our decisions and steps were always given a democratic outlook by Tarun Gogoi. He had planned to establish women's college, medical college and different educational institutions," Bhattacharya said.

AASU president Dipankar Nath said, "Tarun Gogoi was the most unbiased leader who treated everyone equally. His most noteworthy contribution to the state was his democratic stance towards solving issues".

Former AASU General secretary Lurin Jyoti Gogoi said that the veteran leader will be remembered for his willingness to solve burning issues of Assam, for bringing Assam out of its dark days.

They expressed their heartfelt condolences at the demise of the great leader and to the bereaved family members.
