Traffic Restrictions in Guwahati for Union Home Minister’s Visit

GUWAHATI: The Traffic section of Guwahati Police has imposed restrictions on the movement of vehicles in the city of Guwahati in view of the Union Home Minister’s visit to the state. The official notification was issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Guwahati on Tuesday.

The notification said, “To ensure the safety of the public, especially vulnerable road users like children, students, women, senior citizens and differently-abled persons on the road and to give free passage to the emergency vehicles like Ambulances, Fire tenders etc, the following restrictions on the movement of vehicles shall be imposed on 25 May 2023 during the visit of the Hon'ble Union Home Minister to Guwahati.”

According to the notification, the following are the restrictions in place. Plying of commercial goods carrying vehicles of four wheels and above shall be restricted on National Highway-27 and National Highway-17 falling under Guwahati city from 7 am to 11:30 pm on 25 May 2023 and plying of commercial goods carrying vehicles of 3 wheels and above shall be restricted on Panjabari road, G.S. Road, B.Barooah road, GNB road, MG road, AT road and DG road from 9 am to 7 pm on 25 May 2023.

Also, the Kamrup Metropolitan District Administration has declared Guwahati a no-drone-fly zone for May 24–25 in view of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s programmes at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra and Khanapara.

The minister is visiting the state and will be taking part in the distribution of the appointment letters for 45000 positions in the state of Assam. He will also be lying the foundation stones of several projects during the visit. He was initially scheduled to visit the city at the beginning of the month, but postponed the event owing to the situation in Manipur.
