GUWAHATI: Assam's Agriculture Minister on Wednesday said that Vietnam should serve as a model for the agriculture and allied sector of the State.

Addressing newly-appointed Programme Officers, Accounts Officers and media experts of the Agriculture Department here, Bora said that despite being a country ravaged by war at one time, Vietnam has brought am agricultural revolution and this worthy of emulation by the State. He pointed out that in view of similarities in climate and topography, Assam can also replicate Vietnam's success.

He further urged the departmental officials to motivate the majority of local farmers to grow two to three crops a year instead of just one crop so that Assam can also export agricultural produce like Vietnam. The Minister said that efforts are being made to fill up vacancies in the department within the current year.
