Two years of demonetization: Congress stages protest, several arrested

GUWAHATI: The workers of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) led by its senior leaders staged a protest rally against demonetization in front of the Reserve Bank of India located at Panbazar on Thursday at around 11:30 am.

Several senior APCC leaders including State’s former Minister Rockybul Hussain, APCC president Ripun Bora and leader of opposition Debabrata Saikia were arrested when they were leading the procession at Panbazar. Moreover, more than 100 other APCC workers were also picked up by the police from the venue. Notably, the Congress protestors attempted to break police barricade to march ahead. However, they were stopped from marching further from Panbazar by the police contingent stationed at the venue itself.
