Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visits residence of eminent poet Nilmani Phookan

GUWAHATI: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited the residence of eminent poet Nilmani Phookan in Guwahati on Sunday. The octogenerian was recently bestowed with India's highest literary award, the Jnanpith for the year 2020. In view of his illness, the Union Minister took stock of his health and offered felicitations to his wife Dulumani Phookan.

"The soulful and thoughful creations of Nilmani Phookan touches the heart of the readers. His works have enriched Assamese literature, especially the poetry world. We are very proud that a man of such extraordinary talent like him has been honoured with the Jnanpith," the Union Minister remarked. The Union Minister also prayed for the quick and speedy recovery of the noted poet.
