USTM launched Green Energy Vehicles under Green Campus Initiative

GUWAHATI: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) launched two green energy carts for the use of students and staff inside the campus on Wednesday.

The carts were flagged off from the Amenity Centre of the university by senior journalist Prashanta Rajguru. The occasion was graced by Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, Dr. Mridul Hazarika, Vice-Chancellor; Prof Suhail Sabir, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Dr. PK Goswami, Principal Advisor, and Dr. RK Sharma, Advisor of USTM, apart from many others.

Speaking on the occasion, Chancellor Hoque said, “We have taken many constructive steps to address the environmental issues inside our campus and the neighborhood areas. The battery-operated carts are one of such measures. The international scientific community has been nearly unanimous in telling us that reliance on carbon-based fossil fuels is causing global warming and climate change. Our campuses should not be contributing to this ecological time bomb called global warming. Being an institution of higher education, we have a special responsibility to address the continuing environmental crisis.” This was stated in the press release.
