Guwahati: Dehradun Police detained a man from Guwahati for allegedly being involved in an inter-state kidney transplant racket in Uttarakhand.

Notably, the Dehradun Police were finally able to locate and apprehend Akshay Raut from Guwahati, who's been on the run since 2017 and was wanted with a bounty of Rs 20,000.

As per authorities, the offender was transported to Dehradun on Tuesday and placed in five-day transit custody. Akshay is the son of Amit Raut, a racketeer who is one of 17 persons arrested in the case.

According to reports, Amit Raut, another of the primary suspects at the time, said that his son Akshay Raut was also involved in the scam and how he had helped him leave Chandigarh after paying him money. 

According to the officer, the authorities had been searching for the offender for four years before apprehending him in Guwahati. Officials stated that the accused illegally obtain kidneys from the poor and indigent for a little amount.

The defendant has consented to all of the counts levelled against him. The defendant had spent the preceding four years working as a physician at several hospitals in places such as Bengaluru, Coimbatore, and Pune, among others.

In another human trafficking case in Guwahati was reported recently, which stated that a senior lady official of the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) enticed and persuaded a man to give his kidney for her ill spouse. 

According to sources, Karabi Deka, CGM, APDCL promised Hirumoni Saikia of Nagaon a job and a parcel of land in exchange for donating a kidney to her husband. Saikia said that he donated one of his kidneys to Deka's spouse, but that she failed to keep her pledge. Instead, following her husband's kidney transplant, she severed all ties with him and refused to let him meet her.
