Vegetable vendor tests corona positive; Panic in Silpukhuri area

GUWAHATI: A section of people residing in the Silpukhuri area in Guwahati is scared of COVID-19 after a vegetable vendor, Ashok Das, testing corona positive on Sunday night. People who have bought vegetables from the particular vendor have genuine reasons to be scared of as the vendor did sell vegetables in the Silpukhuri market till Sunday evening.

According to reports, the vendor had given his swab samples for test three days back, but opted not to wait for the results and continued to sell vegetables. After the report of his testing corona positive, a hue and cry erupted in the Silpukhuri area on Monday.

This may not be the only such case in the city and elsewhere in the State. There might be more such COVID positive people selling vegetables, pulling e-rickshaws and rickshaws and doing other sorts of works without knowing their infection. Since vegetable vendors and grocers are the ones who are visited by people in large number everyday, it seems imperative on the part of the administration to ensure that they are COVID-19 free.
