GUWAHATI: The sleuths of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (V & AC) arrested three officials from three different places in the state today.

After receiving three complaints regarding demands for bribes, one each from Kaliabor in Nagaon, Khanapara in Guwahati, and Matia in Goalpara, the V&AC laid traps, and successfully caught all three officials red-handed.

The sleuths laid the first trap in the Office of the Circle Officer, Koliabar Revenue Circle, Nagaon, where Lat Mandal Pranjal Bora was caught red handed at 11:30 am, immediately after he accepted a bribe of Rs 2,000. The sleuths recovered the tainted money from Pranjal Bora's possession and seized it in the presence of independent witnesses.

The V & AC registered a case (07/2023) under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), against Bora. Pranjal Bora had demanded Rs 3,000 as a bribe from the complainant for processing and issuing the complainant's land sale permission. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached this directorate for taking necessary legal action against the public servant.

The second trap was laid in the Office of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Khanapara, Guwahati, where the sleuths caught Bidyadhar Das, a senior assistant, immediately after he accepted a bribe of Rs 4,000. The sleuths recovered the tainted money from the possession of Das and seized the amount in the presence of independent witnesses. In this connection, a case (08/2023) under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) has been registered in the ACB Police Station against Bidyadhar Das.

Bidyadhar Das had demanded Rs 5,000 as a bribe from the complainant in the name of processing the complainant's pension file. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached this Directorate for taking the necessary legal action against him.

The third trap was laid in the office of the Block Elementary Education Officer, Matia, Goalpara, where Bajlul Basit Sarkar, BEEO, was caught red handed after he accepted Rs 1,000 as a bribe from the complainant. The money has been recovered from the possession of Bajlul Basit Sarkar and seized accordingly in the presence of independent witnesses. In this connection, a case (09/2023) under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) has been registered at the ACB Police Station on behalf of Bajlul Basit Sarkar.

Bajlul Basit Sarkar had demanded Rs 1,000 as a bribe from the complainant, who is a teacher, for signing the complainant's bank loan (personal) documents.
