Voice of Environmen (VoE) launches cleanliness drive at Basistha

Guwahati, Sept 30: In accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Basistha Devalaya (Temple) Authority, Guwahati and Voice of Environment (VoE), the latter launched a mission under the name and style of ‘Clean, Eco-Friendly Plastic Free Zone’ creation on the occasion of World Environment Day this year.

In sync with the mission, and with support extended by the Basistha Temple Authority, VoE on Sunday organized a cleanliness drive at the temple premises as well as to create awareness among devotees/visitors to make the Basistha Temple premises clean, eco-friendly and free of plastic. The drive also involved the erercise of keeping the Basistha Ganga river clean.

The VoE began the day at 10 AM with an open public discussion held in presence of Doloi, devotees/visitors, Pandijits of temple, local residents of Basistha and vendors/shopkeepers of area.

At the open public discussion the Doloi explained to the devotees and the public about the importance of cleanliness which he termed as next to godliness. It was also pointed out at the meeting that clean temple premises and its surrounding could have a positive impact on eco tourism and hence on livelihood of the small business community of the area.

The meeting was followed with the members of VoE, guests, priests of the temple, local residents, shopkeepers and others taking to the cleanliness drive at the temple premise and river Basistha Ganga.
