GUWAHATI: The Voters Party International (VPI) released its candidate list for the first and second phase of the Assembly election on Tuesday in Guwahati.

The VPI will field candidates in 11 constituencies in the first phase and eight constituencies in the second phase.

The candidate list for the first phase is —

Dhekiajuli: Ranjay Basumatary; Borchala: Ajit Muchahary; Rangapara: Jitendra Kumar Sharma; Sootea: Anila Basumatary; Biswanath: Milicharan Basumatary; Gohpur: Sabir Narzary; Bihupur: Bhugeswar Gogoi; Lakhimpur: Diluwar Hussain; Dhakuakhana: Lalit Pegu; Dhemaji: Ajub Khang Brahma; Sadiya: Tikendra Thapa.

The candidates for the second phase are –

Rangia: Pabitra Boro; Panery: Bhumitra Kachari; Kalaigaon: Bhagawan Deka; Sipajhar: Hareswar Deka; Mangaldoi: Jitendra Sarkar; Dalgaon: Abdur Rahim; Udalguri: Dinesh Boro; Mazbat: Sunil Sarkar.

Addressing the media, here, VPI All India Committee president Babita Sharma Goyal said that the candidate list for the third phase of the polls will be announced on March 15.

Further, she slammed the BJP for 'failing' to develop the State.

"The BJP as a party has failed to change the lives of the people of Assam. The increasing prices of commodities are affecting the public specially the weaker section. Both the Congress and the BJP came to power but the State didn't witness any development during their respective regimes," Goyal opined.

Further, Goyal underlined that the VPI will support the parties who are against the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) and Farmers' Act, 2020. "If such political parties want to ally with us then we will welcome them with open arms," said Goyal.
