GUWAHATI: At a time when the Government is launching schemes to convert Guwahati into a Smart City, the Geetanagar Police Station and its barrack on the Mother Teresa Road have been swamped by knee-deep water as a result of rain-induced waterlogging.

Personnel at the police station said that artificial flooding is a long-standing problem for them, with no solution in sight. Like earlier years, important files and equipment have to be shifted to prevent damage as the water level threatens to cover desks, chairs etc.

They said that the police station, which was established in 1983, needs to be refurbished under the Home Department's MOITRI scheme.

"The situation is so bad that it will be difficult to keep any newly-arrested person in the lockup due to the presence of flood water inside the police station," a policeman said.
