Water Woes: City Residents Face Acute Drinking Water Crisis

GUWAHATI, Aug 10: The residents of Gandi Basti and Islampur staged a road blockade at Gandhi Basti Tinali on Friday in protest against the GMC’s supply of contaminated water in the locality. During the protest, the residents while demonstrating a few bottles of contaminated water supplied by the GMC said, “It is so irregular that the residents receive water supply hardly for ten minutes a day. Moreover, the water we receive is neither potable, nor usable for any purpose. Contrary it is becoming allergen to our skin.” The residents also blamed the authority for not maintain the roads of the locality. Expressing concern over the dilapidated road condition, the residents said, “Even a short lasting shower turns the road inflexible.” Later, while visiting the spot of agitation, Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) Commissioner Manalisa Goswami assured the residents to step up measures keeping in mind their grievances within 10 to 15 days.
